Hex-a-Huddle Files and Instructions
My daughter and I created a game called Hex-a-Huddle a little while ago (2020) and I have been quite delayed getting instructions and files out to everyone. So… here it is. If you feel like this would be better placed on a maker page or space, feel free to share and do so. If you […]
Hexagon Play
I created this design to be in that present moment frame of mind and play with the beauty of hexagons. So many possibilities of artistic compositions exist. I am working on a p5.js generative art piece with this design as well and will post it once it is complete. Here are the SVG files. I […]
Playing with Kolam Tiles
I attended a wonderful math art workshop that went over the tradition and art form of Kolam. Siddhi Desai and Deepa Bharath had a wonderful presentation and activities to draw on dotted paper to create amazing designs. I look forward to playing with rice flour designs this weekend. Laced Reflections
My mind was on snowflakes tonight, which brought me down a rabbit hole of reflections, lace, and play. The code here is simple but fun. Enjoy making snowflakes, lace, stars, or whatever comes to mind. If you wish to fork the code or play it is here. My CodePen is below. Press the spacebar (or […]
Hex-a-Sierpinski

Hex-a-Huddle Board Game
This week Quanta Magazine published an article on penguins and their hexagonal behavior. I shared this article with my 14yr
Rotating Hexagons
This is a p5.js script I started played with as I get ready to post about stop animation in my 52 weeks of hands-on-math. Here is a link to edit code. You may want to play with the angles, number of sides in the polygon, rotation rate, etc. If the javascript isn’t loading, then here […]
Have you Tessellated today? Rotational Play
I posted on translating tessellations yesterday, and ended up playing with a rotational tessellation on my ipad. I had to laser print it of course and see all the various patterns. I love math!
Week 21: Hexagon Tessellations
I love tessellating! This week we are playing with hexagons. Learners can either draw or cut various hexagonal designs with various colors. It is fun to see what secondary patterns can occur. Do other polygons tessellate? This is a wonderful activity to practice mindfulness and presence as you play
